Unaccompanied Minor Policy

Children younger than the age of 15 who are traveling alone will consider as an unaccompanied minor. However, children younger than the age of 5 are not allowed to travel alone in any situation.
American Airlines does not provide service of Unaccompanied Minor on these routes:
    If the route includes a connection to/from another airline, including codeshare and Oneworld partners
    In the case of ground/co-terminal connections (A young unaccompanied flier under 15 years, can’t use ground transportation alone)
    In the case of the last flight of the day from the final connection city, unless it’s the only scheduled flight offered
    In the case of overnight connecting flights

AA guidelines for kids traveling alone

·        The airline will not accept children younger than the age of 5 to travel alone in any situation.
·        Children between the ages of 5-7 are allowed to travel on non-stop or direct flights only.
·        Children between the ages of 8 to 14 can travel on any nonstop or direct flight.
·        Children between the ages of 15 to 17 don’t have to use the unaccompanied minor service, but it’s still available to them.
Children can travel in any connecting flight through:
Charlotte, Washington Reagan, D.C., Dallas Forth Worth, TX (DFW), New York, NY (JFK and LGA), Los Angeles, CA (LAX), Miami, FL (MIA), Chicago, IL (ORD), Philadelphia, PA (PHL) and Phoenix, AZ (PHX).
Note: Children 2-14 years old can travel as an 'Unaccompanied minor' with someone who is at least 16 years old or older.

Required documents for check-in at the airport

·        On the day of departure, Parents or guardians need to fill-up the unaccompanied minor form and other important documents at the airport ticket counter. That form must remain with the children during the flight.
·        Age proof (such as birth certificate, passport) of the unaccompanied minor is required.
·        A security pass from the airport ticket counter is a must escort the minor through security to the gate.

Pick-up

Within the USA:-
·        Adult, who is picking up the child must show a government-issued photo ID when he/she pick up an unaccompanied minor.
·        Get a security pass from the ticket counter to meet the child at the gate.
·        AA will allow only the mentioned adult by the parents to pick-up the child.
·        If there is any change, inform the customer service about the change.
Outside the USA:-

·        On some airports, parents or guardians may not be able to escort the minor through security. Instead, after they check-in, an AA representative will escort them to their gate and supervise them until the flight departs.
·        Anyone under the age of 18 traveling internationally without both parents may be required to present a Letter of Consent.
