Mark Twain House and Museum

Once the residence of famous word magician Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain) and his family from 1874 to 1891, now a popular destination of the city. Built-in the American High Gothic style, this beautiful gem of architectural beauty was designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter. Twain wrote many of his famous works here such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Prince, and the Pauper, Life on the Mississippi, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and A Tramp Abroad. Wadsworth Atheneum

Home of one of the finest American art collections, the Wadsworth Atheneum is a famous art museum in Hartford, Connecticut. Founded in 1842 and opened in 1844, It is the oldest free public museum in the United States and famous for its collections of European Baroque art, ancient Egyptian and Classical bronzes, French and American Impressionist paintings. Home of more than 50,000 works, its Gothic-style building is very beautiful in itself. It is the largest art museum in the state of Connecticut, with huge exhibitions area of 75,000 square feet. Other main highlights of the museum include contemporary works, Hudson River School landscapes, modernist masterpieces, collections of early American furniture and decorative arts. In 1970, this castle-like museum was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Wadsworth Atheneum is a member of the North American Reciprocal Museums program.

Connecticut Science Center

One of the finest science centers in the US, the Connecticut Science Center can easily excite science geek in anyone. With 168 exhibits, each one of them is dedicated to forms of science and technology world and full of kid-pleasing DIY activities. Main attractions include Forces in Motion, where children can make and test flying devices; at Invention Dimension, they'll race robots and invent with Legos; at Planet Earth, they'll feel hurricane-force winds and make their own weather forecasts. Bushnell Park

Located next to the Capitol grounds, famous Bushnell Park is the oldest publicly funded park in the United States. This beautiful park covers nearly 50 acres (20 ha) and contains the Civil War Memorial, the Pump House Gallery, the Israel Putnam statue, and a 1914 Stein and Goldstein carousel. Opened in the mid-1850s, the park was conceived by the Reverend Horace Bushnell when the need for open public spaces was just starting to be recognized. Today, this park is visited by over one million people each year.

Elizabeth Park Rose Garden

The first-ever municipal rose garden of the United States, The Elizabeth Park Rose Garden is as beautiful as its name sounds. The third-largest garden in the nation, it was named after Elizabeth Pond and the land donated to the city by her husband, Charles H. Pond, in 1903. This 102 acre contains more than 15,000 plants with 800 varieties of roses. These plants include beautiful include old and new varieties of hybrid tea, climbers, hybrid perpetual, floribunda, shrub, and pillar roses. The garden shows it’s full in summer when all plants bloom, but the most spectacular time to visit is in late June and early July when the ramblers covering the arches are in full bloom. In the winter, the park is open for ice skating.
